I was doing a load of dishes just a bit ago, and although I was aware of where all the children were (and sort of aware of what they were doing) I was not paying attention to the little details. When I heard Joey call to me in a panic, I wasn't too concerned as I knew nothing life threatening was happening. So I walk around the "corner" of the kitchen and see Joey holding the gate that is supposed to keep the kids out of the kitchen. Well, if Nick had fastened it to the wall it may keep the kids out (at least the littlest ones), but as it is just held up by sitting between the wall and the piano...it just slides across the opening to the kitchen. So all the kids know how to slide it open and it does nothing to keep them out from underfoot when I'm cleaning or cooking.
So, Joey was holding it as it had come out from between the wall and the piano and would have fallen over had he not been keeping it up. It was an easy fix, just slide it behind the piano again...Joey felt better. Then when I turned around to finishing rinsing out the pot I was working on, I noticed that Baby Nick's pants were lying there on the floor; empty. I peek around at Baby Nick, and he is sitting contentedly by the stove playing with my dish towel that I try (in vain) to keep hanging from the oven door...bare legs. He must have crawled out of them...but as I was not paying attention to the details, I was taken completely by surprise! What fun my kids bring to my life. (Currently, Baby Nick is trying to place a long distance call to Tokyo, or somewhere like it...thankfully I have an older son who is concerned about our long distance phone bill and will "kindly" rip the phone out his brother's hands and turn it off.)
Off to make lunch....I believe we will have chicken nuggets...it's a favorite!
