This blog is just a collection of rambling thoughts and memories; a way to share our lives with friends and family. Our family consists of Nick, Trinity, Joseph, Nicholas, Ethan, and Andrew. Not only do the kids out number the parents, the boys far out number the girls. I stand alone. Therefore, I also use this blog as, sometimes, my one tie to sanity. So peruse at your leisure, and sometimes, at your own risk.

Making Holiday Plans
We invited Randy and Cheryl and their families over for Thanksgiving. If they don't come to our house, we were also invited over there! So either way, we will probably be spending Thanksgiving with them. If they were to come to our house we would have twelve people here, including the four of us. I would love to have them over here so I can share with them my family's favorite Thanksgiving tradition: eating dessert first! That way, we are not too full to enjoy our pies, and after our tummies settle after dinner....we break out the pies again!!
I know that, whatever we do, we will have a great day. But, even now, I am having a hard time thinking about the holiday season coming up, and making plans that don't involve my family. I have always been able to celebrate with my family. It will be so different this year. I hope that I can be a hospitable hostess or a gracious guest despite how I might feel.
I haven't even begun to feel Christmasy yet...and for those who know me well, know how unusual that is for me. Although I hold off until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas, I usually start listening to Christmas music by the beginning of September at the latest (it's been as early as the middle of July before.) But this year, I just don't have it in my heart yet. I know I have been singing the choir Christmas program, but as I have said before, it is more a Christmas worship program than traditional Christmas songs.
One thing I will miss about being with home, is playing Christmas duets on the piano with my mom. There's only a couple that we do, and every year we have to "re-learn" the pieces, but we have so much fun. We usually end up laughing so hard we can hardly play, and I wouldn't call the "Hallelujah Chorus" a funny song (except when we play it!) I'll also miss sitting around the piano singing with my brother and sisters. We are such a musical family, we have all been singing since we were young children. Since my husband doesn't sing, I will have no one to sing with this year.
At least we'll have a white Christmas! And New Year, and Valentine's Day, and St. Patrick's Day, and possibly Easter and Mother's Day as well.

Snowing
I do look forward to being able to post pictures of the snow covered world up here so that those of you at home can see. Now that Joey is a little older, it will be a lot of fun watching him out in the snow. Nick wants to teach him how to make and throw snowballs. Aunt Angie in Texas has requested he make a snow angel for her.
Joey's new word lately is "fine." You know, said with attitude. I'll tell him to keep the crayons on the table. He'll sigh, "Fine." Or he'll throw his hands up as if to say "what did I do?" and say "fine." He makes me giggle!
Another of his habits that is just as cute, but completely unacceptable is pointing at Mommy or Daddy when he is mad. He will get this huge scowl on his face, big pouting lips, and point his finger as if to say, "No Mommy...naughty." I know he got that from us, as both Nick and I will get a stern look on our faces and point to him saying "no" to something. We have really made a conscious effort not to point as we are admonishing him for the disrespect he shows us when he points. We don't want to confuse the poor kid!
I seem to blog mostly late at night when everyone is sleeping, but I should be sleeping too, or I might miss my chance. So I will sign off for now. Good night.

Monday Morning
As bad as it sounds, I wish it were my kids that got my sister-in-laws' kids sick, because that would mean we were together. I sure miss them!
On the bright side, Baby Nick has still been sleeping very well. He goes to sleep around 11pm or 11:30pm and doesn't get up to eat until 4am or 5am. I do have to put his pacifier back in every once in awhile, but other than that...he is doing great. Here is a picture of him in very snuggly pajamas for the first time! He is usually full of smiles when he first gets up...then later in the day, watch out! He can be a menace. Well, maybe I am exaggerating just a little, but he can wear on me by the end of the day. What's on the docket for today? The dishes need to be finished, the living room cleaned (again), and the box of toys and books that I brought in from the garage needs to be put away. That one will take a while because Joey has decided to get into the box while it sat on the landing and throw out just about everything....so I have to repack the box in order to get it up the stairs in one trip, before I can even put it away. As Angie would say...he's so cute! That should keep me busy today...if I can even get to it all. It doesn't seem like much, but I have to get the boys in just the right mood to be able to get anything done. I suppose I should try and get breakfast for myself first, give me energy for the day.
Have a wonderful day

The Color of Denim
Baby Nick still has the small patch of blonde hair on the left side of his head, although it is getting harder to see as his hair is thining out some. He has the ring around the back that is very nearly bald, and I suppose the rest of his hair will go as well, just as Bubba's did. However, once Joey's hair started growing back, it came in very full, and beautifully curly. I can only hope that Bug's will come back the same. Even if it stayed straight instead of curly, I hope it is full. I just wanted to give a more detailed physical description for those at home that are missing seeing him grow and change. I wish the picture did better justice to his eyes, but it's quite difficult to get a close up of just his eyes without the picture being distorted.
More Adorable Vocabulary
Of course, Bubba couldn't let the baby get a picture taken without one himself. Poor thing, you can see his runny nose. We were geting Bubba ready for a bath. We stayed home from church today because both boys have colds, although Bug seems to be getting better.
Joey has some creative ways of saying new words and I love to share them. He makes me laugh.
Some of his new words:
"biper sand" is diaper sand, which is his way of describing the granuels left on his skin from a diaper he's worn for awhile, like overnight.
"birsey", as in happy birsey or birsey cake. (obviously it's 'birthday') The other day he drew a 'birsey cake' on his magna doodle type toy. He wanted me to have a bite, so he rubbed his fingers over the picture and had me "eat" a bite. Then he asked, "Do like it? Delishalishes?" I think he handled a big word like 'delicious' pretty well! Of course I like it Bubba, it's very delicious.
"burp cwaw" or "cwash cwaw" are burp cloth and wash cloth. :)
What a joy my kids are!

Come Home
Have you wandered finding something less when inside you've been longing for more?
If you remember how it used to be when you lived your life more abundantly,
Come home, come home.
If you're tired and weary, come home.
The Father is waiting to welcome His own.
You've been gone so long.
Come home.
You've been searching since you said good-bye like a child with a lesson to learn.
But there's mercy in your Father's eyes as He waits for the day you return.
And it won't matter where your heart has been when He holds you close in His arms again.
Come home, come home.
If you're tired and weary, come home.
The Father is waiting to welcome His own.
And you've been gone so long.
Come home.
Oh why do you keep running from the One who loves you most,
so far from where you know you want to be?
Patiently He's waiting and He longs to hold you close.
Even now He's calling, softly and tenderly:
Come home, come home.
If you're tired and weary, come home.
The Father is waiting to welcome His own.
And you've been gone so long.
You've been gone so long.
You've been gone so long.
Come home.
I wish you could hear it. The very music of this song, let alone the lyrics, seems to speak of God's desire to hold us in His arms, to welcome us back into His fellowship. He is so loving and patient. Let Him hold you today, let Him minister to your heart His deep love for you.
Dashed Hopes
Alas, Bubba came in to our room at 11:00pm, early even for him, and has a pretty nasty cough. He had been fine all day...but after plans were made to give me a break, he had to get a cold. Now Nick thinks it would be best to keep him home. (I am sure he is right, but I still dream of a few quiet hours to myself!) That's the life of a mommy. Bubba does sound pretty miserable, I pray he feels better quickly.
Tonight's Bible reading is still in the book of Psalms and the verses I will share with you filled me with such awe and appreciation for God.
Psalm 68:19-20 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.
How encouraging! Our God bears our burdens every single day. He never takes a break from caring for us.
The dictionary defines sovereign as this: adjective having supreme rank, power, or authority, supreme; preeminent; indisputable, greatest in degree; utmost or extreme, being above all others in character, importance, excellence, etc. How incredible it is to know that God is Sovereign! He is in utmost control of our lives, at the same time giving us free will. When our lives seem full of chaos, God is Sovereign. When blessings overflow, God is Sovereign. Praise God!
Tomorrow I will share the lyrics to one of the songs in the Christmas program the choir is doing. I wish I could let you hear it, it is so beautiful. It is a solo song, for a baritone voice, with an alto duet interspersed through the second verse and chorus. It is so touching, it brings me close to tears. (For those who know me well, you may be thinking 'it doesn't take much', but it really is beautiful.)
I suppose I should try and get some sleep. It's just after midnight and Bubba still hasn't gone back to sleep, so hopefully it will help to have me lay down too.

Oh No! Be Nick Pit Up Gin!
Baby Nick has always been a spit-upy baby, but since he has had this cold it has been worse. I think he has so much drainage that it is upsetting his tummy a bit more than usual. Instead of spitting up once or twice right after eating, he will keep "leaking" for the entire time between feeds.
There is nothing more precious than watching Baby Nick adore his big brother. Even at this young age, Joey can make Bug smile bigger and for a longer time than anyone else! I can't wait until he grows just a little more and they can really start ejoying each other more.
I went to choir last night and brought a guest with me. Bubba had a separation crisis as I was getting ready to leave, so he tagged along. He was so good, he made me very proud! He sat very quietly and played nicely. I held him for much of the time and he either laid sweetly on my shoulder or laughed at the quiet games I played with him while singing. He was very well received by everyone else and made a few chuckle. The poor kid though, I didn't realize until we were walking out to the car to go home, that I had put his shoes on the wrong feet! He suffered through that for two and half hours! What's worse, the shoes are getting on the small side anyway, so that would make it even worse. But either he didn't notice, or it didn't bother him, because he didn't complain.
It looks like a fair day outside today...mostly cloudy, but not raining for now. It's really cold for me, but still to warm to snow. It's staying in the mid forties for the highs. The weather people on the news say that "fall is definitely here." I say this is still winter weather and they don't know what fall is! But I guess when winter actually hits, I will be glad for this time of faux fall.

What I Heard God Say.......
Psalm 44:5-7 Through You we push back our enemies; through Your name we trample our foes. I do not trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; but You give us victory over our enemies, You put our adversaries to shame.
Our enemies, our foes, are not just people who are against us. Our enemies are also immorality, lust, greed, sins of the flesh, etc. Only through God can we push these enemies back and trample them. We may not have a physical bow or an actual sword, however, often we put our trust in our own willpower to be able to defeat our "enemies." But only God is trustworthy. Only through His strength, and leaning on His power can we have victory.
Psalm 50:16-21 But to the wicked, God says: What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you. When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers. You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit. You speak continually against your brother and slander you own mother's son. These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
There was a time in my life when I "cast [God's] words behind" me, yet I still acted the right way in front of the right people and said the right things...recited His laws. God was silent at that time and I was able to justify to myself that I couldn't be doing anything really wrong, or God would punish me. But God does not stay silent forever. He desires us to come back to a right-standing with Him. 2 Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come into repentance." When God is silent, He is neither condoning sin, nor indifferent to it; He is withholding deserved punishment, giving us time to repent. Thank You, God for Your holiness, Your grace, and Your mercy.
Psalm 51:1-12, 17 Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are proved right when You speak and justified when You judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Surely You desire truth in the inner parts; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
I know that when I turned my back on God, many people were hurt by my actions. But none were hurt more than God. Even now, several years later, my relationship with God suffers, as there are still barriers that are being torn down. Satan loves to remind me of my failures time and time again. In my weak flesh, often I will believe the lies Satan tells me. I have to start all over, trusting that God has forgiven me and chooses not to remember my sin. At the church I was going to before I moved, Pastor Timmons made the point that often we say God forgives and forgets. However, forgetfullness is a flaw. "I forgot my keys" is a flaw, and we know that God is perfect. It is not that God forgets our sin, he chooses to remember it no more. Hebrews 10:17 says, "Then He adds: Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." The last part of Jeremiah 31:34 says, "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."
Lord, my deepest desire is that You create in me a pure heart. Draw me into Your presence and fill me with Your Holy Spirit every day. Restore in me the joy I have when serving You and living my life as You would have me live it. Thank You, O Precious Lord, that You do not despise a contrite and broken heart. According to Your promise, cleanse me whiter than snow and blot out all my sins, choosing to remember them no more. I praise You, Lord Jesus; You are worthy to be praised!

"Wherezidit Go?"
I am so blessed with Bubba. God has given him a very tender heart, I pray he will always use it. After a particularly difficult phone call yesterday, I was crying. Joey was sitting on my lap and says, "I sorry" and gives me a hug. Then later that evening, I was getting very frustrated with my screaming Bug and let out a howl, and again Bubba said, "I sorry" and gave me a hug. Of course I apologized both to Bubba and Bug for yelling. Because he is so tender, he is so quick to apologize for everything wrong in the world as if he were personally responsible. I just wish I could make him understand that he is one of the things right with the world.
Thank you Jesus for my beautiful, sweet children.

Big Boy

Baby Nick has been working on getting a cold, so today we're keeping him bundled up. I had to perform the evilest of all mommy duties....suctioning out the nose. He was not happy. It wasn't my favorite task either. Since he is not feeling well, he is extra fussy. I still am not getting any sleep so I have less patience than normal. Extra fussy + Less patience = Not a fun day!
Doesn't he look so cute all bundled up? The hat doesn't stay on him for long, but at least long enough for a picture. It's feeding time again........better go make a bottle!
"Do You See This Woman?"
Yet a woman who had "lived a sinful life," commonly accepted to mean she was a prostitute, interrupted the party and washed Jesus' feet with the tears she was unable to keep from shedding and then dried them with her hair. (This was a big deal because back in those days, if a woman let down her hair in front of any other man but her husband, it would be grounds for divorce, as it was too provocative.) Then she poured the most expensive perfume she had over his feet and kissed his feet repeatedly. The whole act of washing someone's feet was the ultimate humility and self-abasement.
None of the guests would even look at this woman. In fact, Simon was convinced Jesus wasn't a prophet because if he were, he would know what sort of woman was touching him, that she was a sinner. He said this to himself, but Jesus answered him anyway. Jesus told of two men who owed money to a lender. One owed a small debt and one owed a very large debt, but neither were able to repay it. The lender calls them both in and cancels the debts. Jesus asked Simon which of the debtors would love the lender more. Simon "supposed" it would be the one who had the larger debt.
Jesus then turned to the woman and looked at her, but addressed Simon. "Do you see this woman?" Then he tells Simon that, even though he was an invited guest, Simon offered him no common courtesy, yet this woman gave the very best of what she had. Then he said (vs 47), "Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven-for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little." Then verse 50, "Jesus said to the woman, 'Your faith has saved you; go in peace."
One of Pastor's points, was that all that we acquire in life is just temporary; houses, cars, jobs, money, etc. Everything but one thing: people. Our families, friends, neighbors. Those souls that we love and care about, those are permanent. We should spend more time concerned with people than with possessions. So ask your self, "Do I see this woman?" Do you look at those no one else would look at? Do you concern yourself with "acquiring" people rather than amassing more wealth?
This weekend my heart has been with my family even more than usual. As I am not near any of them to wrap my arms around them, I have prayed that God be my arms and wrap each one of them in His tender arms. I pray for healing, I pray for peace between parent and child, brother and sister, and between spouses. I pray that God use each of us, wherever we are in our own lives, to reach out to those around us.
Mom and Dad...I love you.
Josh, Stacei, Jacob, Ravyn, and Rachel...I love you.
Aubrey, Gary, Jeremiah, Brent, Jesse, and Sarina.....I love you.
Paul, Angie, Tyson, MacKelti,Trae, Taeo, MaeLynne, MadyLene, MeilaRose, and MajoziAnn...I love you.
Mark, Staci, Mason, Shayden, and Micha......I love you.
Megan....I love you.

Midnight Desire
I asked, "Do you love Grandma Mary?"
Joey cried, "Uh huh. See Grandma Mary? See Grandma Mary?"
He kept getting more and more agitated.
Finally I asked if he wanted to see a picture of Grandma Mary, because although it was a quarter after four in the morning, I would have been willing to sit at the computer and find all the pictures of Grandma Mary we have if it would make Bubba feel better. But he didn't want a picture, he wanted to see Grandma Mary.
Soon after, he fell back asleep, so I snuck out of bed and went downstairs to get a picture of Grandma Mary holding Joey. Grandma Mary had sent it to Bubba in a card when we first moved. I brought it back upstairs and set it on the desk next to the bed.
Just a couple minutes later, Bubba woke up crying again and said, "Look picture."
So I laid the picture of him and Grandma Mary on the pillow next to him and he gave a half smile and closed his eyes. Then his eyes popped back open to look at the picture. This happened two or three times until he finally took hold of the picture and fell asleep.
About an hour later, he woke up crying again and asked, "See Aunt Angie?" He asked that a couple more times until he fell back asleep. I was all set to go back downstairs and get the picture of Aunt Angie and her boyfriend Steve that Grandma Mary had sent in the same card, but he fell asleep without needing it.
On the up side, Baby Nick slept through the night again!! He fell asleep in my arms between 11-11:30pm as I was watching a movie. When the movie was over at midnight, I brought him up the stairs and laid him in his bassinet, fully expecting him to wake up and need to eat. But he surprised me and slept until almost 6:15am when he finally ate. After he ate a couple ounces, he went back to sleep until 8:30am! If only I was as lucky to sleep so well.

Amazing
Tonjght I am being taken out on a date. The first date sine the baby was born. It will also be the first time I will be leaving baby Nick with a babysitter. Nick's boss, Cheryl, is going to watch the boys for us. I am not worried about leaving them with Cheryl, but I am very sad that baby Nick's first time being babysat is not even going to be with family. It's Nanny's honor to watch the grandkids for the first time. Unfortunately, a round trip plane ticket wouldn't be worth it for a couple hours! :)
hbn g cgtc v vgm , (That's Baby Nick's contribution...you are on your own for a translation, I still haven't figured out his language)
I asked if Bubba wanted to say anything on the computer and this is what Bubba said, "Uncle Josh, and a Nanny, and Papa Cott too. Nanny and a Uncle Josh and a Uncle Josh and a Uncle Josh and a Aunt Angie. Uh, Nanny and Uncle Josh and Cheryl and Ranee. Papa Cott too, and a Nanny and Nanny and Papa Cott. Play with Nanny, play with Rina. Uh, Nanny and Uncle Josh and Aunt Angie and Papa Cott. And a Papa Cott and Baby Nick. Uh, Uncle Josh and Aunt Angie and Mommy booger. Uh, Uncle Josh and Angie and a Nanny.Uh, Nanny, Aunt Angie and Cheryl and Ranee and Raneeeee, and a Raneeee, and a Cheryl. (Fake burp!) Eat a baby Avery. (Mommy asked, 'Do you mean feed baby Avery?) Uh Noooo! Uh, say Peter and a Peter. (I don't know who Peter is) Nanny, Uncle Josh and Ranee and Cheryl. (now he is telling Baby Nick to say Peter.) Miss you, love you too Daddy. Uh, Daddy. And Daddy. Bye Guh bye"
He sure had a lot to say! I'm sure he was thinking of other people too, but apparently he only wanted to talk about these few.
Enjoy your day!

Fried Rice
Needless to say....I had scambled eggs with bacon in it for lunch!
Promised Pictures
Here is Baby Nick at two months. You can definitely tell he's not as chubby as his brother!
It's a miracle I could get a smile out of him after all those shots! Isn't he cute?!?!
Here's Bubba ready to ride his "cyclebike." Of course, the mask is upside down, but what can you say? He is a very independent boy now!Two Month Check Up
I certainly had my hands full. I had the baby in his infant carrier, the diaper bag, my purse, Joey, and Joey carried baby Avery in his carrier! We made quite a site walking through the parking lot and cramming in the elevator!
Baby Nick is very healthy and "growing like a champ," as the doctor said. He got 5 vaccines in three shots and he was sooo angry for about 45 seconds, and then calmed down. What I wasn't expecting was for Joey to get a shot as well, but I had skipped getting his Hep A vaccine at his two year check up because it is a two-parter and we were making the move to Alaksa in the middle of the six month spread. So Dr. Bateman said we could do the first part today and the second part when we bring him in for his three year check up next May. Joey did excellent....he didn't make a sound or cry a tear!
So here are the measurements for the boys at two months:
Joey: 23" in height 16 lbs
Nick: 23 1/2" in height 13 lbs 10oz
As we guessed, Baby Nick is taller and thinner than Joey so far. I tried posting the pictures I promised, but for some reason, they wouldn't post. I will try again later. Baby Nick is having a VERY difficult afternoon, so I gotta run!
Git Dinner Taco Bell
I had Nick try something new when putting Joey to bed to see if it would help get him to sleep faster. Now we put Joey to bed with Baby Avery, the Cabbage Patch Kid that Grandma Dooley sent him. Joey is so focused on taking care of Avery right now, feeding and burping him when ever I feed and burp baby Nick. He also put the doll in the swing and turned it on! So I thought that if he had to put Baby Avery to bed, maybe it would help him fall asleep sooner. So far it has worked. He lays right down and is asleep within ten to fifteen minutes! Now if only he would stay asleep in his own bed. Now when he climbs in bed with us, he has Baby Avery with him!
Baby Nick is two months old today! Later we are going to the new doctor for his well child checkup. I am anxious to see how much he has grown and to compare his size to Joey when he was that age. I will blog about it later. Of course I will also have current pictures to go with it and hopefully find a good comparison picture of Joey at that age.
Today, Nick and I have been married for four years! It seems amazing how much we have been able to fit into four years of marriage. We have bought two new cars, bought and sold a house, made a huge move to a new state, and of course had two kids! It's no wonder it feels like more years have passed than four!
I'm off to take Nick to work so I can have the van today. Can't wait to update you on Baby Nick!

Fun Fun Fun
I get the honor of bathing my Bug-a-Boo. He loves the water, especially when it is nice and warm. Both of my sons seem to like the water warmer than you would expect a little one to be able to tolerate. I gave my Bug a bath this morning and let Bubba help. We had more water on the floor than what was left in the baby tub! But baby Nick loved it and was all smiles for his big brother. Then he decided to "use the restroom" (just tinkle), but didn't let me know ahead of time, so his bath water was contaminated. You would think that would stop Joey from playing in it, but it didn't! So I had to try to get a wet, slippery baby out and dried off, and at the same time try to keep Joey from splashing the dirty water everywhere! Fun Fun Fun!
What a little chunk he is becoming! The boys are napping now, giving me the opportunity to fold the laundry before it gets all wrinkled, so I better get to it!

What A Father Can Teach A Son
The other thing he has taught Joey is to "put his dukes up." Joey makes two fists and holds them up to about shoulder level. Then Nick will "punch" Joey either on the cheeks or on the stomache. So how does Joey respond? He punches himself in the tummy! So much for Daddy teaching him to defend himself. Instead, our son will be the one beating up on himself! We have lots of fun in the Luty house.
I was holding both of my precious sons this afternoon when baby Nick woke up from a nap. Joey looks over at him and says, "Smile at Bubba" and wouldn't you know it, Baby Nick lit up like the Fourth of July. It was so sweet to see my sons enjoying each other. I pray it will always be that way! (But I'm not holding my breath.)
The Snow Is Holding Off
According to the latest seven-day forecast, there is no snow coming! Of course that can change, but for now I praise God that there is no snow. Nick is disappointed. He wants to get the winter started so it can be over with and he can go fishing again. It doesn't matter to him that it is supposed to be fall right now. But I suppose I am the one that is going to have to get used to the fact that Alaska really only has two seasons...spring and winter.
Joey just got a package in the mail from Grandma Mary. He was so excited. You can definitely tell he understands the concepts of presents now. He could barely wait for me to open and read the card to him. Grandpa Chuck sent him a Hot Wheels car, very exciting to Joey as he loves cars. He started driving it around the coffee table as soon as he got it open. Then he remembered that he had another present. Grandma Mary sent him "hantuh cween" socks and stickers. No, not hunter green socks and stickers....Halloween socks and stickers! (Joey is so cute I just want to squeeze him and kiss him all day long) He wanted to put the socks on right away and wore them the rest of the day. They are a bit big, but at least they don't fall off of him. Joey also helped baby Nick open his present...a butterfly. Joey has barely put it down since!
Baby Nick has kind of outgrown the nickname Squirt. He's just as cute as a bug in a rug...so now I have been calling him Bug-a-boo. He smiles at that, sometimes. Even Joey calls him Bug-a-boo every now and then. It is so cute to hear Joey talk in the high pitched "baby" voice most adults use with a newborn. Because he hasn't quite reached the age where his voice changes, even I can't talk as high as he does!
The sermon at church today was very good. Pastor Gary spoke about being stewards. Most commonly, when speaking on being good stewards, money is the main topic. The text was 1 Peter 4:10, "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." Pastor pointed out that the greatest gift we have been given is our life. So what are you doing with your life to serve others; to administer God's grace? Being a good steward is not just about money, but also using your very life for others. He implored us to be God's unique color crayon, allowing God to color in His picture using us where He chooses. When I stand before God to give an accounting of my life, I don't want to say, "I didn't have any money to be able to be used of God." I want to be able to say, "I gave of myself to serve others."
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Mommy Mode
I included a couple pictures of the inside of our townhouse. You will have to excuse the mess; I know it doesn't show, but I actually picked up and vacuumed before taking the pictures! There is a pile of dirty clothes and a pile of shoes on the stairs out of the camera's view and Joeys toy are piled up by the TV, also stategically left out of the picture!

Although Joey is in "mommy mode," he still wants everyone to know he is very manly. Therefore, he had to take off his shirt (could it be because he got dinner all over it?) and show off his "shrong mushols!" He makes the grunting sound to go with it, which is captured so well in the picture. It sounds more like "oh", but in a very manly grunt!
It's so nice that it is Friday. That means only two days until I get to go to church. I leave church on Sunday saying "I can't wait until Thursday" and leave choir on Thursday saying "I can't wait until Sunday." I love that Joey also enjoys church. Several times a week he asks to go to church and I have to tell him "it's not church day." He always says "church fun." The only thing sad about it is that he still thinks he gets to see Aunt Aubrey and Jesse when he gets to church but I have to remind him that they go to a different church. I wish with all my heart that I could say he would see Aunt Aubrey and Jesse at church, or that we could go "bye-bye soon see Papa Buddy." Our computer is set to show a slide show of the pictures for a screen saver and Joey will sit up at the computer for the entire 10-15 minutes and name everybody in the pictures as they pop up. The other day, one of the pictures of Nanny came up and Joey blew her kisses. It's sad to think that there will be a time when Joey stops asking to see his family, it will just be normal that we don't get to see them.
Joey is asking for some "chachit milk" so I better get him something to drink. If I want to have anything to eat today, I better clean the dishes too!

I Can't Believe It's October!

This is the "alley" we have to walk down to get to our front door. It's hard to see, but our door step is the farthest down. If you enlarge the picture, you can see it better, as our door is past what you can see here.
Well, I should hurry and get dressed for the day as I hear baby Nick starting to wake up from his nap and he will be hungry. Hopefully Joey will sleep a little longer. He didn't sleep very well last night.

It's A Miracle!
While my shower was neither luxurious nor relaxing, it was cleansing! What a wonderful feeling. In fact, baby Nick is still sleeping, so I am able to get some things done around the house. I better get back to them.

AHHHH...
Tonight was the first rehearsal for this year's Christmas program. It was just an introductory night, so we passed out the music books and listened to it once through. We sang along if we wanted to, but it was a very basic rehearsal. I sang through the whole thing, as most of us did. It is a very enjoyable program, however, very little "Christmas" to it in the traditional sense. It is more of a worship program.
I would have enjoyed the night if all I had done was get to sing again. But I also met a few people as well. One lady I talked to, Lanore, was the lady that worked in the nursery on Sunday. After we put two and two together, we realized we had met and she told everybody that my son is the sweetest child in the nursery. She took it upon herself to introduce me to the pastor and his wife. They were both excited that I had come to join the choir after only having visited for the first time on Sunday. I sat down with the pastor for a few minutes, Pastor Gary, and he asked if I had sang this program before. I hadn't. He said, "I could hear you singing so well that I thought you either could sight read really well, or you are part of the company that put the program together." That was really nice to hear. I can't wait until next week. I can't wait until Sunday either.
One of the best parts of the night though was when I came home. Although he should have been in bed, Joey was still up and so happy to see me. I had a feeling he would still be up, but I don't blame Nick at all. Baby Nick is at his worst in the evening with the colic. From about 6pm to 10pm or 11pm he is screaming as long as he is awake (and he is usually awake for the majority of that time.) It is quite difficult to try to get Joey to sleep when Baby Nick won't stop screaming, because Joey still needs us to lay down with him until he is asleep. As Joey was walking up the stairs with Daddy to go to bed, Daddy whispered in his ear to tell me what he learned to say while I was gone. In the most precious voice, Joey says, "Love Jesus." It was so cute.
Well, since all three of my boys are sleeping now, I should take advantage of it and go to sleep too.
The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. (Psalm 145:13b-14 NIV)

Mile Post
Joey is so helpful with baby Nick. Today he decided it was his new job to help change the diaper and got quite upset when I didn't let him help. Nick was laying on the floor and Joey was sitting on the blanket next to him when he looked up at me and said, "Stinky!" So he got me a diaper and thought that he would be able to change it himself. (That's all I need! I can just imagine how that would turn out.) So I let Joey undo to the tabs on the diaper, then I cleaned the baby, and Joey put the new diaper under baby and fastened the tabs. He is quite the little helper. Yesterday he declared it his job to shake the bottle to mix in the formula. I usually do the shaking when I first make the bottle, but Joey will shake whatever is left after Nick gets done eating!
It is such a blessing to have two precious children.
Praise be to God!

And the Rains Came...
I didn't take the boys out today, however, I had to venture out a couple times (that's how I know how cold it was)...once to the mailbox to mail out some letters I wrote and once out to the garage to get some meat out of the freezer for dinner. That may not seem like a big deal, but the garage is about as far away from the house as it can get. What's worse is the hot water heater is out in the garage so it takes forever to get hot water. Let me tell you, making a bottle for the baby is a half hour ordeal, it seems like.
It's 11pm and Joey is sleeping nicely. Now if only I can get baby Nick to go to sleep. I would love to get a shower in as it has been about 63 hours since my last shower! Eww, I feel gross. Maybe I can convince Nick to stay up just a little longer so I can get clean.
Good night from near the end of the earth!

Cute in the Morning
What a big cheese Joey is. Nick is just praying he does't get dropped!
Daddy is getting some snuggles! It is a beautiful day here today. The boys and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. Joey walked beside me and baby Nick was in the carrier, zipped up in my coat! Joey did really well considering we walked for almost an hour! When we got home, I made Joey a sandwhich for lunch and he barely finished it before he looked over at me and said, "Lay down oh be bed." So I took him up to his big boy bed and he went right to sleep.
The kids and I went to church on Sunday and I really enjoyed the church we went to. Joey had a good time in the nursery, and of course the lady in the nursery said that he was so sweet and precious (as if I didn't already know that!) Baby Nick slept through the entire service which was very nice for me. I am planning on going to choir practice on Thursday night. They are just starting to rehearse their Christmas program and it will be so nice to be part of a choir again. Hopefully I can get my husband to come with me next week.

Alaska
The Mountains are starting to get snow on them, as you can see from the pictures. I am told that we will be able to see the progression of the snow, as day by day it covers more of the mountains and finally reaches the ground. The mountains are so huge and up close to Anchorage...it will be a spectacular sight when they are completely covered in snow!
All of these pictures were taken through the car window as we are driving down the highway. In the last picture you can see the subtle reflection of Joey's shirt.

I look forward to posting more pictures of Alaska as I get them. One day, when my house is clean enough, I will take pictures of my 'home' so you can see where I live.May the Joy of the Lord be your strength.

Picture Day
Bubba is being goofy playing on the couch.
Make that Ham with Cheese, please!
I know he looks funny, but he really is quite cute. To get this picture, I had to put the pacifier in his mouth to get him to stop screaming, yank it out just when I'm ready to take the picture, and hope that it takes before he started screaming again! This weekend we will probably get snow tires put on our van. I hear they sometimes get snow the first week of October! (Oh joy!) It's not that I don't like the snow. It's real pretty and all, I just don't like being cold. Luckily, so far that is, it stays pretty warm upstairs where the bedrooms are. Nick and I still keep both fans going at night, on high, and considered switching to the lighter comforter. However, it does get pretty chilly in the morning, so we left the heavy comforter on and will turn the fans down to medium and then low as it gets colder. If we are really lucky, it will stay warm enough not to have to use the heat upstairs and just turn it on downstairs during the day. But if it gets to 20 below, I don't know if I will be able to be reasonable with the heat. I will do my best though.
Nick has also talked about taking us to Wasila to show me where he "lived" for the three months we were apart. Hopefully, we'll be able to stop and take some scenic pictures so I can show you some of Alaska. Since I don't get out of the house much, and certainly not out of Anchorage, I haven't taken any pictures of the land yet. I know Nick wants to show me where he spent most of his time fishing also, and that is supposed to be a really pretty spot.
I suppose I ought to sign off for the night and get my shower while the boys are sleeping.
Be blessed.

Translation
See if you can translate these adorable words or phrases:
1. "one-o-one"
2. "oh bee"
3. "cute fwiver"
4. "poo jay"
I wish I could think of more for you, but at this time of night, it's amazing I can think at all. I should be sleeping, I know, but wouldn't you know it...Baby Nick refuses to cooperate. He was just asleep, that's why I got on the computer, but I didn't lay him down more than two minutes ago and he woke back up again. At least at this particular moment he seems to be fine just laying there, but I'm not too optimistic that he will stay that way for long. At least Joey is still asleep in his own bed though. Let's pray that he stays there tonight.
I can't believe that it is already two-thirds of the way through September! I will have been in Alaska for a whole month in eight days. It doesn't seem possible. Today I just about lost it when Bubba said, "Jesse over. Bye-bye soon." He kept asking if Jesse could come over and with all my heart I wanted to say "yes" but I couldn't. Never do the miles seem so far away more than when Bubba asks to see someone in the family. I should probably think of something else to write about as I am getting all emotional again, acutely feeling the separation from my family.
As darling as it is to be called Mommy, Joey has started calling me by my first name once in awhile, and I can't help but smile. It seems to bother Nick that he calls me by my name, but I just remind him that I am "Mommy." He calls me "Trin" or "Choo nee nee" or even "Babe!!!" How can you get upset at that!
Well, thank God for miracles...Baby Nick got himself to sleep, so I will give you the translations for Joey's words and then get myself into bed!
#1 "One-o-one" is "another one"
#2 "Oh bee" is "Big boy" as in "oh bee bed"
#3 "Cute fwiver" is "screwdriver" (that one may have been too easy!)
#4 "Poo jay" is "PJ's" (he also calls his cousin Taeo, Too Jay)
Good Night

Stay Downstairs!
Dinner turned out very well. We had Farmer's Pork Chops which is a recipe from Paula Deen (nothing like southern cooking for company). The cake however was the hit of the night, as I hoped it would be. It didn't turn out looking very well as the icing was not stiff enough for the sides of the cake, so it kept sliding down leaving a thick pool near the base of the cake...but I frosted it as quickly as I could and stuck it in the fridge to help set the frosting. Call it vain, but I don't like to serve food that isn't aesthetically pleasing, so I cut it up in the kitchen and brought the pieces to the table! It was delicious. Of course, we have over half the cake left over...oh darn, my husband just hates that!
Joey seems to learn a new word or phrase every day. As I was cooking dinner last night, I was flouring the pork chops and got flour on my dark, navy shirt. So I let out a frustrating little growl. Joey comes running into the kitchen and says, "Matter, matter?" I have never heard him say "what's the matter" before. It was so cute, definitely worth getting flour on my dark shirt just before company arrives.
The other day Joey came up to me and said, "Belly putton hurt." (No, that's not a typo, that's how he says it!) Finally I figured out what to ask in return, "Are you hungry?" "Yeah" It broke my heart, because once again, I realized that Baby Nick is the only one in the house that eats on a regular basis anymore. But what a clever, descriptive way for a two year old to articulate his need.
Today, for the first time, Joey saw baby Nick roll over. He got a kick out of that and couldn't stop laughing. He has such an adorable laugh.
Well, its bedtime...Joey finally dropped off, so if I can get Baby Nick to go to sleep, I may just get a shower!

The Mess Keeps Growing
We are going to have our first company tomorrow evening. Nick's boss, Cheryl and her boyfriend Randy are coming over for dinner. So of course, I want to have the place looking somewhat livable. I'm not expecting perfection, in fact, I probably won't even touch the boys' room...however, I do want the clutter and boxes to be cleaned up and put away. It just seems however, that since I want this done by tomorrow afternoon, the more I put away, the more there is to put away.
Then there is the amount of preparation in making dinner tomorrow. The meal itself takes a lot of prep and clean up before dinner is even served let alone the triple decker peanut butter cake I am going to make. Which means that after church tomorrow, I don't have a whole lot of time to spend putting things away as I have to cook all day, so everything needs to be done tonight!
I am excited to have company though. It's been awhile since I have seen anybody but my husband and kids.
Okay, break time is over! Got to get back to work.

Outlook...
What I should have done, is asked God right then to change my outlook and be my strength so I could get through the day. Hopefully now the day will be better. I am still exhausted, but my ongoing prayer through the day is that I will not let sleep deprivation color the way I look at the day and I have to, with extreme mental effort, tell myself what outlook to take on the day.
On the positive side, Baby Nick has been working on his smiling muscles and actually smiled up at me this morning. I did get a picture that I will share with you, however, it is at an odd angle as he was laying in my lap as I was at the computer...but you can still see the beginnings of a smile. If I may say so, he's going to have a VERY cute smile! (No bias, of course!)

And who can have a bad day when given a smile like this?!?!! Too bad he didn't look at me like this all day long.

What is with this kid falling asleep wherever he is? He cracks me up. Here he is, his legs just dangling off the recliner, sleeping as hard as ever. Even baby Nick screaming in the swing didn't wake him up! He is so funny.
Well, my husband should be home for lunch soon, so I better get making something for him. Joey will want to eat when he wakes up too. I think I will just take a few more minutes to myself and at least get dressed though!

Getting Something Done
I have started a load of laundry already.....of course, since baby Nick spit up all over our sheets, I guess it was kind of necessary. Now I just have to figure out which piles are clean, but not folded and which piles need to be washed. I may end washing it all over again and doing my best to fold it when it comes out of the dryer. Half the time, I don't even remember to get it out of the dryer unless there is another load to put in!
I would also like to hang pictures today...make the place look a little more like home. I finally found my hammer and nails last night.
I suppose I should get Bubba some breakfast now. Have a blessed day.

One Month Pics
Rolling
On Friday, I laid baby Nick on his tummy to see if he would like "tummy time" and he rolled over! I thought it was a fluke, I mean, I have never heard of a baby less than a month old rolling over! If it was a fluke, then he "fluked" three more times on Friday and three times last night! I guess we will have to wait and see, but I have a feeling that we have an early mover on our hands. This will be quite different for us as Joey has always taken his time with everything. Joey didn't crawl until 8 months, he didn't walk until 14 months, and he is still working on putting words together in phrases or sentences. I always said while I was pregnant, that baby Nick was going to be an athlete the way he moved around so much.
I have to start getting creative with my showering time if I ever want to be clean. Last night, or early this morning, after feeding baby Nick at about 5:30, I decided to take my shower and then go back to bed. Amazingly, I was able to go back to sleep and it felt so heavenly to be clean. I may have to do that again.
Well, Baby Nick is finally waking up and since he hasn't eaten for three hours, he will be starving!
God Bless

Brotherly Love
Joey asks me all the time if he can hold baby Nick and he especially likes to "bounce" him. He takes such good care of the baby.
Here are some of my favorite pictures of their brotherly love!

What mother wouldn't be proud of this display of brotherly love!
God Bless
Sunday Morning Rush
I forget how hectic getting ready on Sunday morning can be when you have small children, and I only have two! I can't imagine how my sister-in-law Angie does it with her five. She is such an amazing woman and it is such a blessing to call her friend.
I had my first visitors on Thursday. Glenn, Edna, Cathy, and Melinda came over to visit and meet the boys. It was so nice to see them. Cathy's reaction to Joey was, "Oh my goodness, it's a boy Candy!" She couldn't get over how much Joey looked like my mom. Cathy also said she was on a mission from my grandma to make sure I was alive and well and in a safe neighborhood...apparently my telling Grandma isn't assurance enough! :) It is nice to be so loved and cared about.
Well, we are all bathed and dressed, now I need to make sure we get breakfast, teeth brushed and shoes on.
Have a blessed day.

Blessings
God loves me, as faulty as I am, He loves me. There could be no greater blessing than that. And He is whom all other blessings come from.
My husband...he always manages to remind me how much he loves me at the very moment I need to hear it. He has been completely understanding of the time I need to make the necessary adjustments to our new life in Alaska and tells me that he loves me for being with him. He is willing to help with the boys, which not all wives can say about their husbands. I tell him how sorry I am for bothering him in the middle of the night when I need help with something, but he always assures me that it is no bother and he wishes he could do more. I couldn't dream of a more wonderful man to be married to.
My children....so full of unconditional love. Even when Joey is showing me how good he is at being two years old (no that wasn't a compliment), he is always quick to show me how much he loves me and desires my time and attention. Baby Nick is still so young, but I know that he loves me too, especially when he sleeps for a long period of time during the night! :)
My family....I have the most wonderful parents, grandparents and siblings, all of them so supportive and loving. There is rarely a day that I don't hear from somebody letting me know that I am loved and missed and being prayed for.
There are far too many blessings to list each one, however, those are my most precious blessings.
Baby Nick is begging to be fed...God bless you.
Free Time
What is free time? I think I remember something about it, from way back when I was a kid...sometimes in school they let us outside for what was called recess! I think that was the last time I had free time. It seems that way sometimes. In fact, now is the time I should be sleeping as both my kids are asleep, however, a quarter after one in the morning seems to be the only time I have free to do something for me, something I enjoy. I hear it gets better as the kids get older...I only have to deal with no free time for another 18 years or so! :)
I do enjoy my sons though. Joey will pick up one of his cell phones (our old recycled phones) and walk around the house saying, "'Lo, Hi Nanny...Love you...miss you too...Bye" He talks to Nanny and Aunt Aubrey and even Steve who is my sister-in-law's boyfriend! He is so cute. He always brings the phone over to me and puts it up to my ear so I can talk too. He is very thoughtful.
Baby Nick is still working on being fun to watch. He still sleeps much of the day, therefore stays up much of the night. But it does seem to be getting better. There are more times during the day that he is awake, although, he is usually screaming, so I wish he were asleep! I guess we can't have everything we want.
I will share a couple of pictures of the boys...the couple is a comparison shot. They are pictures of Joey when he was 17 days old and Nick when he was 18 days old so you can see how much they look alike. It is great that they are both sitting in the same chair for these pictures...I didn't plan it like that!

This is Joey when he was 17 days old.
This is Baby Nick at 18 days old. In my mind, there is no question that they are related!
Here's a recent pitcture of Joey, always doting on his baby brother, making sure that Mommy and Daddy are taking good care of Baby Nick.
Well, I really should try to lay down and get some sleep...I don't have much time left until Baby Nick will wake up to eat!
God Bless.

The Moving Process
Even with both Nick and I working on the house, we hardly seemed to get anything done. I got the laundry done (again) and one box of clothes unpacked in the closet. That's it! I also straightened up the living room some more, but have hardly begun to get the house in order. I guess I will have to double my efforts as much as possible if I want to get a good deal done this weekend while Nick is home.
I thank God that I have such a wonderful husband and children. Nick is always quick to rescue me when I am losing patience with Baby Nick. We work well together, because by the time Nick starts losing patience, I am ready to start again! Joey is also such a sweetheart. He is always full of loves for Mommy and Baby Nick. He never seems to get frustrated that Baby Nick cries much of the time. He usually just gives him hugs and kisses and sometimes says, "Sorry Baby Nick." He has such a tender heart.
Well, we have hit the hardest part of my day...bedtime. Joey is having a hard time staying asleep in his big boy bed again and of course, Baby Nick is screaming his head off. I guess I should do something about it! :)

Another Day Is Done
As for the goals I set for myself today... I can't say I was very successful in staying awake while Bubba was up, however, Bubba climbed up on my lap and fell asleep as well, so I won't let the guilt consume me.
I did very well with the second goal. After unpacking Joey's suitcase, I was able to get the linen closet unpacked, the dishes rinsed, much of the garbage picked up from the living room, our home phone and voice mail set up, and more of the boys room put away. It is amazing how proud I can be of baby steps.
Well, Joey is being difficult to put to bed, he still isn't asleep yet and it is after ten. And of course, Baby Nick is also screaming his head off, so who can sleep anyway! They're still so easy to love, though. God is so good!
Setting Small Goals
Today I am setting small goals for myself. Goal #1: Stay awake while Bubba is up! Yesterday, I couldn't seem to keep my eyes open while holding a sleeping hot water bottle of a baby and I kept waking up to find Joey is some kind of mischief. One time, I heard him say, "Color hand" and found he had taken a ball point pen and colored his hands blue! Thanks, Nick. (Nick is always writing notes to himself on his hands if he doesn't have paper nearby.)
Goal #2: Put Baby Nick down once he is asleep and try to get one thing put away. I am doing good with this one so far. I have finally unpacked Joey's suitcase from the flight here on Monday! Then, I rewarded myself by getting online to post a blog. :) I will have to get back to work soon.
But I hear Baby Nick beckoning to me from downstairs...Gotta run!
